Mark “Bear” Combs II serves as an Associate Attorney in Inlet Law’s Homer office, bringing a rare blend of real-world grit, sharp legal strategy, and genuine empathy to his practice. Bear handles a broad range of legal matters for local individuals and small businesses—including contract drafting and negotiations, real estate law, civil litigation, estate planning, and criminal defense.Bear approaches every client relationship as a true partnership. He operates on a simple, grounded ethos: “You don’t have to be an asshole to do this job.” Striving to be the calmest, most reasonable voice in the room, Bear prioritizes constructive solutions but never shrinks from a fight. When a client’s rights, property, or family are threatened, Bear brings a fierce, unwavering protection to their defense.Bear’s journey to the legal profession is anything but typical. Prior to law school, he served in the U.S. Army’s light infantry, with more than 15 months of combat service. He later worked as a professional actor and comedian, honing a unique knack for communication, quick thinking, and connection.After earning his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law, Bear served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable James A. Matish before moving to Alaska to work as an Assistant District Attorney for the Kenai District Attorney’s Office. His unique background and experience give his clients a distinct edge both inside and outside the courtroom. Bear is admitted to practice in Alaska and West Virginia (inactive).When he’s not advocating for clients, Bear takes full advantage of the Alaskan outdoors as an avid hiker and fisherman. He’s an avid reader, loves spending time with friends, and remains devoted to his family—including his sisters, Jessica and Cade, and his nephew, Silas. (And if given the chance, he’d gladly adopt a half-dozen border collies.)
